Mr. Roy Chowdhury started his career with Life Insurance Corporation of India (LICI) as a Direct Recruit Officer with his first assignment as an Assistant Administrative Officer. Subsequently, he was promoted to higher posts in various cities of India. Some of his notable postings in the Senior Cadre of LIC included CEO & MD of LIC International, Bahrain, Zonal Manager In-charge of Western Zone of LICI (one of the largest zones of LIC of India), Executive Director (Personnel/ HRD/ OD/ OIC), Executive Director (Marketing/ Product Development), to name a few.

He achieved far from excellence success in each of the assignments/ He was a spokesperson in The Bahrain World Economic Forum Meeting in the year 2008. Mr. Roy Chowdhury retired from LICI in the year 2012.

On his Superannuation from LICI, he was immediately appointed by the Appointing Committee of the Cabinet of the Govt. of India (whose Chairman is the Prime Minister of India), as a Regulator in IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India). His post was Member (LIFE) in IRDAI and he was instrumental in looking after all matters of all the Life Insurance Companies in India as well as all the Corporate Agents. Mr. Roy Chowdhury served IRDAI for two years and retired from there in February 2014.

During his stint in IRDAI, apart from the Regulatory job, he also helped in Developing the Life Insurance Market tremendously. He was also appointed on several committees of The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS ) , which is Head Quartered in Bassel, Switzerland. During his association with IRDAI, Mr. Roy Chowdhury travelled extensively all over the Globe and was a spokesperson on many International Forums.

He was subsequently appointed as the Executive Director on the Board of the German Government sponsored A2II (Access to Insurance Initiative ) and helped them develop The Micro Insurance Regulations . Incidentally, he also drafted The Micro Insurance Regulations for IRDAI. In IAIS, he chaired the Market Conduct Sub-Committee and was a member of several other sub-committees, notable was the Anti Money Laundering committee.

In the year 2010, Mr. Roy Chowdhury was vested with the Rajib Gandhi Sadbhavana Awarded for being the Best Insurance Executive for the year 2010 and an authority on Insurance Marketing. He was also the Nominee Director of LICI on the Boards of CESC (Calcutta Electricity Supply Corporation), Haldia Petro Chemicals and JP Associates.

Mr. Roy Chowdhury has now become an Independent Consultant and an Advisor on Financial Matters including IT, Analytics and Life Insurance. He is also associated with LIMRA & LOMA for training of Insurance personnel.
